C.G.E. – Certified Gas Engineers

ASGE’s Certified Gas Engineer program was started in 2002 to help identify those individuals with special expertise in the gas appliance industry.

The purpose of the program is to certify individuals who have knowledge of the practice of fuel gas safety and who have been trained in the art and science of fuel gas engineering.

Individuals qualify to be a CGE by taking an exam which is administered annually during the Technical Conference to qualified candidates.

The CGE distinction is available only to ASGE members in good standing.

The written exam requires applicants to be knowledgeable in the following areas:

  • Gaseous Fuels – Basic Information
  • Gaseous Fuels – Physical Properties and Characteristics
  • Operational Safety and Fuel Handling
  • Combustion Chemistry
  • Combustion Stability
  • Combustion Parameters for Non-Premix Burners
  • Burner Operating Characteristics
  • Ignition and Transient Considerations
  • Gas Flow
  • CO₂ Versus Efficiency
  • NOx Considerations
  • Components Used in Gas Appliances
  • Flue and Vent Criteria
  • Environmental Considerations
  • Regulatory Considerations
  • Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermal Conductivity and Thermometry
  • Combustion System and Trouble Shooting

If you are interested in becoming a CGE, please submit an application along with the application fee online or contact Nancy Wilson at [email protected] for more information.
