The International Code Council (ICC) Announces the Availability of the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).

The ICC has published the availability for purchase here, of the PDF Redline version of the  2024 edition of the IECC with PDF and Soft Cover format being made availability soon.  Recall that the development of the 2024 edition was a lengthy process that was highly controversial with proposed provisions that resulted in appeals being filed  from AGA, the American Public Gas Association (APGA), The National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) and Building Owners and Managers, (BOMA) International, the ICC Region VI and the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) successfully objecting to those specific provisions in the proposed 2024 IECC. The major objections that initiated the need for appeals from AGA and the other organizations, dealt with provisions that would require electric ready provisions that would promote, directly or indirectly, all electric homes and buildings limiting fuel gas use for space heating and domestic water heating and those provisions would be required for compliance to the code. In addition, other provisions would come in conflict with federal minimum efficiency equipment requirements.  The importance of the successful appeals announced by the ICC Board of Directors on March 20 is that it moves the provisions of concern from mandatory requirements to non-mandatory Appendix material or completely out of the IECC as “resource” material. Thus, those provisions are no longer mandated as a requirement for compliance to the 2024 IECC. AGA BECS staff will be accessing the 2024 edition and reviewing all the coverage to ensure that all appealed material has been deleted or redirected as non-mandatory and will report on the assessment when available. BECS committee members are encouraged to do the same. The IECC is an important model energy code that is referenced in federal law for residential and commercial construction and is offered to states for adoption as well as required in many federal construction programs, loan programs, etc.
